Self Referrals

Physiotherapy Self Referral

Any person above 16 years of age can refer themselves directly to a physiotherapist without seeing a GP. We provide specialist assessment, early advice, and treatment for people with back, neck or joint complaints; problems following injuries; muscle or tendon problems or any recent changes in a long-standing condition.

If imaging (X-Ray,MRI, or Ultrasound) or a consultant opinion is required, this will all be arranged.

Once we receive your referral, we will: either send you advice and appropriate guidance, exercises in the post or by email, or, arrange a face-to-face assessment.

Think Pharmacy First

  • Earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
  • Impetigo (aged 1 year and over) – a contagious skin infection
  • Infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)
  • Shingles (aged 18 years and over) – infection that causes a painful rash
  • Sinusitis (aged 12 years and over) – infection of the sinuses (behind the forehead, cheeks, and nose)

Click here to fill in an assessment and self-refer online, or you can walk into your local pharmacy. The pharmacist will offer advice, treatment, or refer you to a GP or another healthcare professional if needed. Pharmacies will update your GP health record. Note: On weekends, online self-referral may take longer as the practice is closed and will not look at your assessment until we are open. For a quicker response, please visit your local pharmacy. Find a Pharmacy

Podiatry and diabetic foot protection service (Richmond)

The podiatry and foot health service assesses and treats a variety of conditions affecting the foot and lower limb.

This includes preventative, palliative and corrective care in order to maintain tissue viability and improve foot health and mobility. Individual treatment packages are offered based on podiatric need.

A range of services are offered and include:

  • Biomechanical assessment, including orthotic prescription and manufacture
  • Diabetes foot health advice & wound care.
  • Corrective nail surgery
  • Core podiatry care, including foot health promotion and self-care advice.
  • Provision of services to residential homes, including the training of carers in simple foot care.

The podiatry service offers biomechanical assessment and gait analysis.

Patients with musculoskeletal problems in their feet or lower limbs can be assessed and if appropriate, functional orthotics prescribed.

The trust has a Podiatry Biomechanics Orthotic laboratory based at Richmond Rehabilitation Unit, which enables the manufacture and fitting of functional orthotics on site. Patients can be prescribed and fitted with orthotics all in one visit.

Patients who are completely housebound may be able to receive some treatment at home (please note, this is ‘needs’ assessed). The podiatry service is not able to provide simple toenail cutting, where there are no underlying medical risk factors.
